Karo Dungar (Black Hill)

For a spectacular sunset experience, drive to the "Dattatray Temple" at the top of Karo Dungar, where you will enjoy the best panoramic views of the Great Rann of Kutch.

Located in one of India's largest districts, and Kutch's capital, Bhuj, Karo Dungar is situated 70 km north of Bhuj in the village of Khavda. The area spans 229 sq. meters and is surrounded by a group of hills.

The Dutt Shikhar, standing at 1460 feet above sea level, is locally known as Kala Dungar or Panchchhamayi. From Khavda, heading 25 km north, you will reach the 460-meter-high point known as the Black Hills (Kalo Dungar). From here, you can see the vast expanse of the Great Rann of Kutch. This area also hosts an army post due to its proximity to the Pakistan border.

The local legend recounts that Lord Dattatrey visited this place and offered his body to jackals. Since then, the temple priest offers Prasad to Lord Dattatrey after the aarti, and the jackals from the surrounding Black Hills come to eat the Prasad.
